Pastel is a colored drawing medium made from pure colored pigment mixed with a binder to form a stick. The soft texture of these pastels can create smooth, smudgy lines and intense colors.

BASIC PASTEL PAINTING TECHNIQUE

 
  1. Work Vertical, using the tips, working with flat side, blending, layering, mixing, hard and soft pastels, mixed media
  2. Techniques scumbling, layering, blend, dragging, dusting
  3. Shading: Highlight, Shade, Shadow, Reflected Light and Cast Shadow.
  4. Shading techniques by rendering two-dimensional shapes so that they appear realistically three-dimensional.
  5. Types of Strokes: Edge, sides strokes
  6. Creating Value Scales: Blending (hatching, cross-hatching, pressure strokes)
  7. Blending charcoal with your fingers, scumbling, masking
