Charcoal art is a form of art used as a dry art medium. Like compressed charcoal and charcoal sticks, which charcoal powder and different types of CHARCOAL: Charcoal-vine, compressed, pencil form is used. Charcoal has remained a popular medium for drawing since the Renaissance. The medium is prized for its ability to produce an interplay between light and shadow known as chiaroscuro.

What you will learn
  1. Element of art called value.
  2. Techniques using the medium of charcoal and rendering with value.
  3. Shading: Highlight, Shade, Shadow, Reflected Light and Cast Shadow.
  4. Shading techniques by rendering two-dimensional shapes so that they appear realistically three-dimensional.
  5. Types of Strokes: Edge, sides strokes
  6. Creating Value Scales: Blending (hatching, cross-hatching, pressure strokes)
  7. Blending charcoal with your fingers, scumbling, masking
